Ninth Judicial Circuit Court
SERVICE UNITS
Service unit employees perform pre and post adjudication functions and directly support the Family and Trial Divisions of the court. Each service unit is directed by a unit administrator. The Court Administrator, Suzanne M. Darling, manages the service unit administrators.
Family Division and Trial Division staff support the judges through services including, but not limited to, scheduling, jury service, alternative dispute resolution, caseflow management, court entry screening programs - juvenile intake and domestic intake, juvenile pretrial services, field services (juvenile probation, foster care), community diversion services, juvenile restitution program, juvenile drug treatment court, personal protection order program (adult and juvenile), alternative programs, and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), interpreter services, media relations, and administrative supervision of judicial personnel. The Family Division Administrator is Katherine B. Flack. The Trial Division Administrator is DeVona I. Jones.
FINANCE SERVICES
The Finance unit manages the Circuit Court budget; oversees processing of all fines, restitution
and fees collected by the court; operates financial matters of the Friend of the Court and the
mandated MiCSES program; coordinates appointed counsel; operates collection services. The Finance Administrator is Susan M. Sayles.
AUTOMATION & TECHNOLOGY/CHIEF COURT CLERK
The Circuit Court monitors and maintains court records under a cooperative agreement with the
County Clerk/Register. The Chief Court Clerk and assigned staff are deputy county clerks.
The Chief Court Clerk is responsible for all official
records at the Circuit Court and works closely with the Family Division and Trial Division
administrators for maintenance of records. The Chief Court Clerk also administers technology services,
including management of the court's case management system, and video recording. The Automation & Technology Administrator and Chief Court Clerk
is Ruth A. Gruizenga.
FRIEND OF THE COURT
The Kalamazoo County Friend of the Court is located on the fourth floor of
the County Administration Building, 201 W. Kalamazoo Avenue, Kalamazoo. The Friend of the Court
is the investigation, account, report, and enforcement agency of the Circuit Court for domestic
relations cases involving child and/or spousal support, child custody, and parenting time matters.
K. Nigel Crum serves as the Friend of the Court for Kalamazoo County.
JUVENILE HOME
The Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home is the only secure facility
in Kalamazoo County for housing young persons who have violated the law. Rehabilitative programs
in the Juvenile Home include skill building, educational/vocational training, conflict resolution
and mediation training. The Intensive Learning Center and the Day Treatment Program are also
located in the Juvenile Home. Frank E. Weichlein serves as the Administrator/Superintendent of the
Juvenile Home.
