Ninth Judicial Circuit Court
VIDEO RECORDING
All judicial courtrooms and referee hearing rooms are equipped with video cameras. A video record of all court proceedings
is produced in this manner.
In the Trial Division, video records created prior to October 18, 2007 are stored on VHS tapes
and video records created on or after October 18, 2007 are stored on CD/DVD.
In the Family Division, video records created prior to January 2008 are stored on VHS tapes and video records created
after January 2008 are stored on CD/DVD.
WHO MAY REQUEST A COPY OF A VIDEO RECORD OR TRANSCRIPT?
Any individual may obtain a copy of a video record or request a transcript of public court proceedings by following
the procedures outlined in this notice. Any other requests will be subject to the discretion of the judge presiding at the court proceeding or the judge assigned to the case.
HOW CAN I REQUEST COPIES OF A VIDEO RECORD?
Any individual may request a copy of a video record of public court proceedings.
Please note that CD/DVDs are formatted to be compatible with a personal computer. They are not operational in DVD players
or audio CD players. This request must be made in writing, including: name of case, case number, courtroom, date
of proceeding, whether you want to pick up the video record or have it mailed, and a phone number where you can be
contacted. There is a $25.00 fee for each date of a requested court event. If you wish to have your copies mailed,
there is a $5.00 mailing fee for 1 to 4 copies and $10.00 for 5 or more copies. Checks or money orders should be made
payable to "9th Circuit Court."
Requesting copies of a video record from the Trial Division (Courtrooms A, B, C, D):
Send your written request to the Jury Services Specialist, 9th Circuit Court Trial Division, 227 W. Michigan Ave., Kalamazoo, MI 49007. No orders will be taken without prepayment. You will be notified as soon as your copies are ready.
Requesting copies of a video record from the Family Division (Courtrooms E, F, G, P; Hearing Rooms 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) or juvenile delinquency and child protective proceedings heard at 150 E. Crosstown Parkway:
Send your written request to the Automation & Technology Coordinator, 9th Circuit Court Family Division, 1400 Gull Rd., Kalamazoo, MI 49048. No orders will be taken without prepayment. You will be notified as soon as your copies are ready.
CAN I LOOK AT A VIDEO RECORD?
Any individual may view public court proceedings by scheduling a date and time for replay. Confidential and/or
closed proceedings may only be viewed upon the approval of the judge presiding at the court proceeding or the judge
assigned to the case. To view a video record, please contact the following individuals.
For Trial Division (Courtrooms A, B, C, D):

DO I STILL NEED A TRANSCRIPT TO APPEAL?
Official transcripts of proceedings filed with the court must be ordered from the reporters/recorders authorized by the court to prepare transcripts. You must request preparation of a transcript in writing, specifying the case number, case name, date and type of hearing.
Transcripts for 9th Circuit Court proceedings are ordered through the Automation & Technology Coordinator, 1400 Gull Road, Kalamazoo, MI 49048 (269) 385-6037.
CAN I GET A TRANSCRIPT OF MATTERS NOT APPEALED?
Transcripts of public proceedings that are not being appealed can be prepared by recorders/reporters authorized by the
court to prepare transcripts or they may be prepared using private resources. However, if the transcript is prepared using
private resources, it will not be considered the official transcript and will not be filed with the court. If using a
freelance transcription service, you must obtain copies of the relevant CD/DVDs or videotapes. Please refer to the prior section on how to obtain copies of video records.
