RESOURCE GUIDE - Supportive Services
Helping older adults remain in their homes through a network of in-home and other supportive services is a major goal of the Area Agency on Aging. The agencies listed have contracts with the AAA IIIA and meet minimum standards of service set by the Michigan Office of Services to the Aging. Contact the Area Agency on Aging for information about other agencies providing services through private pay or insurance options.

Provides information about community resources and state and federal programs, helping older adults and their families make informed decisions.

Provides respite for caregivers and social activities for loved ones.

Choices for Independence Programs
Experienced social workers and nurses meet with individuals and/or their caregivers, to help navigate the many choices available to support independence and safety in the home.
Caregiver Counseling
Helps people cope with the stress of caring for a dependent loved one.

Caregiver Resource Center
Provides information and wellness days to help caregivers of persons 60+. Walk-in or mail-order lending library.
Home Injury Control
Provides installation of safety devices, including grab bars, handrails, smoke alarms, enhanced lighting.

Kinship Care Families Program - (Relatives Raising Relative Children)
A program for grandparents and other relatives raising children. The program provides support groups, a newsletter and lending library to assist grandparents raising grandchildren to keep informed about legal and financial concerns, dealing with stress, available benefits, and understanding issues facing children in today's changing world.

MiChoice Home & Community based Medicaid Waiver Program
This program provides home care for seniors and disabled adults who medically qualify for Nursing Home care and financially qualify under program guidelines. Professional nurses and social workers, along with the client and family members, determine an individualized plan of care. Services may include:
- Adult Day Programs
- Housekeeping
- Personal care, such as dressing and bathing assistance
- Home Delivered Meals
- Personal Emergency Response System
- Transportation
- Respite
- Counseling
- Medical Equipment & Supplies
- Environmental Modifications
Waiver agents also can also help residents of nursing homes transition back to the community. Waiver services are available to residents of adult foster care and homes for the aged when program guidelines are met.
Kalamazoo County has two waiver agents. You may choose one, or call both agents (there is often a waiting list for services):
