Animal fighting, often thought of as a "big city" issue has been found in our own backyard here in Kalamazoo County, both in rural and urban settings. Locally, the largest animal fighting problem is dog fighting, however cock fighting, and more recently, hog-dog fighting, have proven to be large-scale problems on a national level.
The best tool for ridding Kalamazoo County of animal fighting is to recognize the signs and know how and when to report the crime.
To report suspected Animal Fighting in Kalamazoo County, please use one of the following methods:
Report directly to KCASE at 269-383-8775
Report via Silent Observer online at http://kalamazoosilentobserver.com/ or phone at 269-343-2100
Report via the Humane Society of the United States Tip Line at 877-TIP-HSUS
Any of these 3 methods will effectively get the information to our department, however, our officers would always rather get the information straight from the source, you! Please consider calling our office first. The HSUS will reward up to $5000 for any tip that leads to the arrest and conviction of an alleged dog fighter or puppy mill operator. Reports made directly to KCASE qualify for this reward money.
It is important to remember that these types of investigations take weeks and sometimes months of research to make a successful case. The more information our office has access to from the beginning, the faster the case will develop. Do not feel as though we are not responding if action isn't taken right away. Our officers work diligently to prepare solid cases to present to the courts, and this effort and waiting it out has proven to be successful.
