At Animal Services, all of the
friendly animals that go unclaimed by an owner are available to families and
rescues for adoption.
Adoptions are as easy as 1-2-3!:
-
Find a pet you want to adopt:
Our animals are advertised all over. We are on channel 3 Wednesdays at 12:25 p.m. We also advertise on PetFinder, as in the Kalamazoo Gazette. The best way to look however, is to just come in. Once here, get the animal out of its cage, see how it interacts with you and make your decisions.
-
Apply for the animal:
We will need your drivers license, proof that any existing dogs you have are
currently licensed, and verification that you own your home, or that if
you rent you are allowed to have pets.
-
Pay and Take Home:
On the day the animal you have applied for becomes available, you may pay
anytime between 8:00am to 1:00pm and take it home anytime from 2:00pm to
4:30pm (7:00pm Wednesdays). If you are adopting a cat or kitten that
needs to be spay/neutered, you may pay anytime between 8:00am to 1:00pm and
take it home the next business day after the animal is spay/neutered.

All
dogs/puppies cost $67.00 Plus a Spay/Neuter Deposit:
The $67.00 covers a 1 year rabies vaccination, puppy booster vaccinations,
heartworm test (if dog is 1 year of age or older), Kalamazoo County Dog License,
exit exam and
AKC Companion Animal Recovery Microchip Identification.
All cats/kittens cost $82.00 for males or $92.00 for
Females:
The Fee covers a 1 year rabies vaccination, booster vaccinations, FIV/FIP
combo test, spay/neutering, exit
exam and
AKC Companion Animal Recovery Microchip Identification.
Spay/Neutered cats/kittens cost $57.00:
The Fee covers a 1 year rabies vaccination, booster vaccinations, exit
exam and
AKC Companion Animal Recovery Microchip Identification.
All other animals, the fees vary so please call!
What is a spay/neuter deposit?: You will pay in advance at our shelter what your
own vet charges for spay/neutering, and when you have it done
your vet will send us the bill, or you will be refunded. We will
not accept prices from the Humane Society, as they do not participate in our
program, so please call your veterinarian to get a quote for the cost of the
surgery. If you do not call your vet ahead and get an estimate, an
estimate will be provided for you when you come in to adopt. This deposit
is required by Michigan State law and must be paid in full at time of adoption. There are special requirements for Pit-type breeds or mixes of these breeds. Please call ahead or come in for more details. |
