For poaching, trapping, hunting, sightings of cougars or other wildlife concerns, please contact the DNR at 269-685-6851.

Animal Services offers live traps to rent for the easy capture of stray or feral cats and dogs. These traps do not injure the animals that are caught.

Animal Services Officers will also respond to sick or injured wildlife. These animals do not need to be in a trap to be picked up, but they do need to be displaying signs of illness or injury.

For deer that are sick or injured, please call the Kalamazoo County Sheriff Department at (269) 385-6173. The Sheriff will be able to put the deer out of its suffering, but the County will not be able to remove or dispose of the remains. If the deer is up and running around, the County will not be able to assist it until its down and no longer able to run.

Kalamazoo County does not provide services to pickup deceased wildlife. We are also not able to assist with skunks dead or alive!

To rent a trap for cats, come into Animal Services during our open hours with your driver’s license. You will leave a $25.00 deposit (cash or check), which you will get back when the trap is returned in good condition. The rental fee for the trap is $10.00/week ($8.00/week for senior citizens).

Kalamazoo County can only accept and pickup animals from within Kalamazoo County. Out of County residents must refer to your Animal Control Department for assistance.

We are not able to capture animals from within walls, chimneys, fireplaces, crawl spaces or other hard to get to areas. If you are having a serious animal problem and you don't believe one live trap will help, please call a wildlife or nuisance animal removal service by referencing the yellow pages of the phone book.
