What is a Resolution/Proclamation?
Resolutions/Proclamations honor a special day or a special person.
How do I get a resolution/proclamation on the agenda of the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners?

What information should I provide?
Please provide the following information:
Your name, address, and phone number
Person or organization requesting the resolution
Person or cause being honored
Reason for resolution/proclamation
Pertinent information to be included in the resolution/proclamation
What about the official resolution language? I don't know how to write that way.
Board Office staff are experienced in taking your information and turning it into the proper resolution/proclamation format.
How will I know that my resolution will actually be on the Board Agenda?
If you phone in your request, the Board Office staff will assist you in determining an appropriate date for presentation. If you have mailed or faxed a resolution/proclamation request and have not heard back within one week, please call the Board Office.
When should I arrive at the Board of Commissioners meeting?
Typically, resolutions/proclamations are the first item on the Board agenda. Arrive at the Board meeting shortly before it begins (typically 7:00 p.m.) and plan to stay for about 15 to 30 minutes.
What is my role at the Board of Commissioners meeting?
The proclamation of a resolution follows the following process:
The Board Chair turns the board meeting over to the Commissioner from your district or to the Commissioner who is sponsoring the resolution on your behalf
The Commissioner steps to the podium and asks the honoree (you) to step forward
The Commissioner reads your resolution and makes the motion to adopt it
The Board Chair calls for a roll-call vote. Commissioners vote and support your resolution.
The requesting Commissioner makes congratulatory remarks.
You will be given the opportunity to speak.
I cannot attend the Board of Commissioners meeting. How will I receive the resolution?
The Board Office will mail you the resolution/proclamation following adoption at the Board meeting. You may also send a representative to receive the resolution/proclamation on your behalf.
