Q. Can I make payments for fines, restitution and court costs at the Gull Road Courthouse?
A. Yes, payments may be made at either the Gull Road Courthouse or the Michigan Avenue Courthouse. The court will accept Discover, Visa and MasterCard credit cards with driver's license or state identification card.
Q. Where do I go to file for divorce?
A. Gull Road Courthouse, 1400 Gull Road, Kalamazoo.
Q. Where will my divorce proceedings be heard?
A. Most divorce proceedings do not require trials, however there may be some details that occur at court. Divorce proceedings are heard at the Gull Road Courthouse. However, if the assigned judge is unavailable, the proceeding may be heard by a Trial Division judge at the Michigan Avenue Courthouse. Read notices thoroughly for location, date and time of hearing. If there are changes from the original notice of hearing, you will be advised.
Q. If I want to file a change of custody petition for my children in a few years, will the same judge handle that case as well?
A. If the divorce case was assigned to one of the judges currently in the Trial Division, it will be reassigned to a judge in the Family Division. If the divorce case was assigned to a Family Division judge, it will remain with that judge. However, if the assigned judge is unavailable to hear a scheduled proceeding, it may be heard by another available judge.
Q. How do I obtain a Personal Protection Order (PPO)?
A. Contact the PPO Coordinator at the Gull Road Courthouse, 1400 Gull Road. The Coordinator will conduct an interview and provide direction for the process. PPO hearings can be heard at both courthouses. Read notices thoroughly for location, date and time of hearing.
Q. I want to change my name. Where do I go to do that?
A. Petitions for name changes are filed in the Probate Court, located at the Crosstown Center Courthouse, 150 E. Crosstown Parkway, Kalamazoo.
Q. I want my ex-husband to pay child support. Where do I file for that?
A. Petitions for child support can be filed at either courthouse, however most hearings will
occur at the Gull Road Courthouse. If you want enforcement of an existing support order, contact
the office of the Friend of the Court. (Friend of the Court -

Q. Where are delinquency hearings and abuse and child protective proceedings heard?
A. These proceedings are heard at the Gull Road Courthouse.
Q. I just married and my new spouse has a child from a former relationship that I would like to adopt. Where do I file for adoption in a case like that?
A. These matters may be filed at Probate Court at the Crosstown Center Courthouse.
Q. May I look at court files?
A. Files may be reviewed in the Clerk's Office with the assistance of the court clerk, unless access is restricted by statute, court rule or order entered by the court. Circuit Court case files may not be removed from the Courthouse.
