FRIEND OF THE COURT HANDBOOK - FEES AND CHARGES
According to MCL 600.2529, before entry of a final judgment or order in an action in which the custody, support, or parenting time of minor children is determined or modified, the party submitting the judgment or order shall pay one of the following fees, which shall be deposited by the county treasurer as provided in section 2530:
i. In an action in which the custody or parenting time of minor children is determined, $80.00.
ii. In an action in which the support of minor children is determined or modified, $40.00. This fee does not apply when a fee is paid under subparagraph (i). The court may order a party to reimburse to the other party all or a portion of the fee paid by that other party.
iii. A $20 motion fee in any case.
Statutory (Service) Fees
Service fees are set by law to partially offset administrative costs. They are currently charged at the rate of $21.00 on January 1st and July 1st. Support payments made by income withholding order include the statutory fee. The fee is normally withheld at the rate of $3.50 per month.
Charges for Copies of Account Records
Both parties, upon written request, may obtain a transaction history for his or her account. Transaction histories are not available at the walk-in information counter, as they are on microfilm and require time to obtain.
Printouts of the current status of your account can be picked up at the reception counter on the 4th floor of the Administration Building, 201 West Kalamazoo Avenue, Kalamazoo, MI 49007. They may also be obtained by calling the Interactive Voice Response system at (269) 384-8200 or by email and a copy will be mailed to you at your address of record.
The FOC can provide you with copies of the court records pertaining to your case. Court records are also available from the Ninth Circuit Court Clerk. There are copying charges of $1.00 per page for this service.
