Ninth Judicial Circuit Court
THE DAY TREATMENT PROGRAM
The Family Division of the Kalamazoo County Circuit Court offers an alternative to institutional/residential placement through its Day Treatment Program. The I-CAN (Intensive Community Alternative Network) is a comprehensive community based treatment program designed to assist youth and families in eliminating "at risk" factors in their lives.
The I-CAN program builds a comprehensive treatment plan for adjudicated youth (13-17) and their families to provide an opportunity for positive change while the family unit remains together. The program's main goals are to promote family preservation, delinquency prevention and cost effectiveness through reducing institutional/residential placements.
Program services support the building of positive assets, teaching responsible and lawful behavior and promoting family unification.
- Individual, Group and Family Treatment
- Evening and Weekend Community Surveillance
- Case Management and Home Based Treatment
- Social Skills and Vocational Skills Development
- Recreational, Educational and Cultural Activities

- Community Service
Youth are court ordered to participate in the Day Treatment Program as an alternative to out of home placement. This comprehensive service model of working with the entire family offers the youth the best chance at rehabilitation while remaining at home and in the community.
The goal of the Day Treatment Program is to provide intensive interventions to increase strengths and successes for the youth, their families, at school and in the community while decreasing risk factors associated with criminal behavior.
