STORMWATER MANAGEMENT RULES
DESIGN STANDARDS FOR STORMWATER MANAGEMENT FACILITIES
LANDSCAPE REQUIREMENTS
A. A landscaping plan drawn to scale shall be submitted detailing the location, type and site of all plant material.
B. Seed Mix
Native seed mixes must be utilized in the development of stormwater management facilities. These seed mixes are based on presettlement vegetation and soil types for Kalamazoo County. Plants that are indigenous to a region are the best adapted to local conditions. Native species will reduce maintenance costs and provide soil stabilization through extensive root systems with average depths of five to ten feet. Appendix D contains seed mixes for the varying soil conditions expected in Kalamazoo County.
C. Planting Requirements
It is the intent of the planting requirements to naturalize the 25 foot buffer strip surrounding the stormwater facilities with a staggered planting. In an effort to allow the developers of the facility leeway in design, the following quantity of plant material will be required per 100 feet. Plants will be selected from Native Plant Species listed in Appendix E.
| Planting Requirements Per 100 Feet |
| Deciduous Tree |
2 - 2" Caliper |
| Conifers |
2 - 6' - 8' height |
| Shrubs |
3 -2 gallon pots |
