Kalamazoo County Drain Commissioner
STORMWATER MANAGEMENT RULES
DESIGN STANDARDS FOR STORMWATER MANAGEMENT FACILITIES
REDEVELOPMENT
Given the nature of site redevelopment a blanket design criteria will not sufficiently address all sites. In general, the Drain Commissioner's Office will expect every redevelopment project to conform to current stormwater best management practices as outlined in this guidebook. Each site will be reviewed and approved on an individual basis. Understanding the site constraints encountered with redevelopment projects, the Drain Commissioner's Office will weigh all site factors in reviews. The hierarchy of the Drain Commissioner's Office requirements will place emphasis first on stormwater quality then thermal concerns, and finally stormwater quantity, unless past history of a particular site or watershed would dictate otherwise.
It will be the owner's engineer's responsibility to prepare a stormwater redevelopment plan that addresses these concerns. This plan may utilize standard treatment methods as outlined in this guidebook or with the Drain Commissioner's approval incorporate alternative methods. It is highly recommended that the owner schedule a meeting with the Drain Commissioner's Office in the initial project planning phase to discuss this plan. Plan review and submittal will follow the criteria of construction plan approval as outlined in Part I of this guidebook.
