Environmental Health Division

PROPERTY MODIFICATIONS

The Environmental Health Division will evaluate vacant land and existing onsite water well and or onsite sewage treatment systems. There are three types of evaluations.

Limited Property Modification Instructions & Application (pdf)
Site upgrades such as a home addition (without adding a bedroom), construction of out buildings, in ground swimming pools, etc
The purpose of this evaluation is to insure the property modification will not negatively impact an existing onsite sewage treatment and/or onsite water supply system. The evaluation will confirm if the systems are properly sized and designed according to current codes. Suggested upgrades to the well and sewage treatment system will be recommendations, unless a public health threat is identified. Water sampling is not included with this evaluation.

Extensive Property Modification Instructions & Application (pdf)
Demolition or catastrophic loss of existing dwelling and construction of new home on the same parcel, construction of additional bedroom within an existing home
This evaluation will assess an existing onsite sewage treatment system and/or onsite water supply system that will be used for a new dwelling or an increase in the number of bedrooms of an existing house. The evaluation will confirm if the systems are properly sized and designed according to current codes. Suggested upgrades to the well and sewage treatment system will be recommendations, unless a public health threat is identified. Water sampling is not included with these evaluations.

Vacant Land Evaluation Instructions & Application (pdf)
This evaluation of a vacant parcel of land will identify any limitations for a new onsite water supply or onsite sewage treatment system (this was previously called a Raw Land Evaluation). The Environmental Health Division staff use a hand auger to expose soils at different depths (sometimes a backhoe cut is necessary). We look at color of the soil and use the field test method of rubbing the soil between the thumb and fingers to determine soil texture. Data available regarding water supplies will also be evaluated and discussed.
