Disposal Options for Material Not Accepted at the Household Hazardous Waste Center

AIR CONDITIONERS, DEHUMIDIFIERS, REFRIGERATORS and other Freon-containing appliances - Charlie's Appliance Removal, 375-0899, charges $25 to pick up refrigerator, air conditioner or any freon-containing appliance from the garage or driveway level area (door removed from refrigerator for safety reasons). Ted's Appliance, 382-1540, will come inside to get a refrigerator and charges at least $45 for pickup plus $30 to remove the freon ($30 only if you bring the unit to them).
AMMUNITION - Please contact your local police department for disposal options.
ASBESTOS - taken to Westside Landfill on Roberts Rd in Three Rivers, 269-279-5444 (call for hours). Friable asbestos - breaks up easily and creates dust - wet down, bag and call call Stacy at 262-532-8012 for approval number. Charges vary. Non-friable asbestos - siding, roofing tile, etc. - no bag and charge is less than $20/cubic yard. DeLisle Associates, 373-4500 and Wondermakers, 382-4154 do asbestos testing.
BULK OIL - Stoddard and Sons Oil Co. (877) 740-1151 Wayland/$35 test annually; 1-2 barrels $50 each, 3-4 barrels $25 each, 5 or more $10 each; 250-gallon tanks or larger/no charge; Crystal Flash (800) 280-6227 Grand Rapids charges $200 plus a $5.74 fuel-recovery fee for any quantity of oil under 200 gallons; 200 gallons or more - free.
CONCRETE - Consumers Concrete on Nazareth Road, 269-342-9869 or Ravine Road, 269-384-0977 will accept concrete and blocks for recycling; Fees: $2.75/ton. Metal O.K., but no asphalt, wood, dirt, etc.
FOAM #6 - Clean packing peanuts may be taken to Mailing and More (Richland), Mail Room (536 Romence Rd), Pak Mail and UPS store for reuse.
HOME HEATING OIL - EM Sergeant Co. - 343-1363 will pump for fee of $150-$200 based on location and $.60/gallon to dispose of oil (tank can be inside or outside). Sperry Brothers - 207-2611 will also pump it for a fee. Stoddard & Sons- 877-740-1151 will pump for fee starting at $200 (only tanks outside of the home w/21/2" opening).
MOTOR OIL - Small quantities of pure, used motor oil taken to Advance Auto Parts, Auto Value, AutoZone, Pep Boys, Person's Auto Repair, RPM Oil and Lube Center, the Comstock drop-off center, Michael's Auto Service, Otto Kihm, the Parchment Service Center, Uncle Ed's Oil Shoppe, Valvoline Express Care, Tractor Supply Co and Wal-Mart stores in addition to the HHW Center.
PLASTIC GROCERY BAGS - take plastic grocery/retail bags with a "2" or "4" to Kohls, Meijer, Target and Wal-mart.
PROPANE TANKS - Amerigas - 1600 King Highway accepts most larger tanks (i.e. for grills) and charges $5/tank for proper disposal.
RAILROAD TIES - Best Way Disposal - 2606 Miller Road accepts treated railroad ties for a fee (388-3346)
SHINGLES - Crutchall - 3303 Gembrit Circle accepts roofing shingles for a fee. Call 269-270-4206 for hours.
SMOKE DETECTORS - Should be disposed of in regular trash (one per trash pick up)
TIRES - limited quantities of passenger tires can be recycled for $2.50-$4/passenger tire at Belle Tire, Bestire, CBA Tire Co., Discount Tire, Firestone Tire and Service, Goodyear Auto Service, Kzoo Tire (Portage), Mike's Tire Service (Galesburg), Otto Kihm, Pep Boys, and Twin City Tire (Plainwell).
