Assists the Chief Cook in directing the activities of up to 16 inmate trustees assigned to the food service facilities, which prepare and serve three meals per day, 365 days per year for approximately 350 inmates, and an additional 50 Sheriff’s Office employees (approximately 438,000 plated meals annually). The kitchen occasionally may prepare additional meals under special circumstances. This position works inside the jail environment.
High school diploma or GED certification and experience cooking in an institutional setting. Must have effective written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of state and local sanitary codes related to food storage, preparation, and service safety preferred. No visible tattoos. No felony or serious misdemeanor convictions. Must pass drug screen, physical and background investigation.
