Supervise staff performing accounting functions. Assist the Sheriff's Office in high level financial decision-making and preparation of union negotiation materials and financial reports. Maintain current and accurate reconciliations for the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office. Ensure financial reporting requirements of the county, state, and federal governments are met. Standardize accounting procedures and strengthen internal controls for the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office. Maximize revenue to provide funding for operating expenses, seeking new revenue sources, including grant opportunities, as appropriate. Coordinate relevant Kalamazoo County Sheriff Office contracts. Provides technical accounting support and assistance to other Kalamazoo County Sheriff Office divisions. Other relevant accounting functions as assigned.
A Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field with a minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience required; or a combination of education, training, & experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, & abilities for this position. Must demonstrate progressive advancement in previous work experience through knowledge of accounting principles, practices, & standards. Possess effective time management, organizational, interpretive, & analytical abilities. Excellent oral & written communication skills. Computer literate with extensive knowledge of computerized systems & office equipment. Position requires the completion of a background investigation, physical, and drug test.
