The Medical Examiner's Department does not provide copies of death certificates. Certified copies of death certificates must be obtained from the Kalamazoo County Clerk's Office or the funeral home. Death certificates are filed in the county where death occurred regardless of where the decedent resided.

Our policy is to provide copies of only those reports generated by our office. Copies of reports that we obtain from other agencies (such as medical records, police reports, crime lab reports, etc.) must be obtained by you directly from those agencies, as we cannot release them.

Requests for the death investigation report and/or autopsy report can be made by calling the Medical Examiner's Office (269-373-5191) or you may make your request in writing. Please be sure to include the decedent's name, date of death and the mailing address where you would like the report to be sent.
