Project Fresh Program in July
Fresh Michigan produce will be arriving this summer at area Farmers' Markets and the Project Fresh program also occurs during this time to promote purchase of locally grown fruits and vegetables from local vendors and encourages healthy eating by its participants.
Project Fresh provides nutritional education, as well as supplemental coupons for Michigan grown fresh fruits and vegetables. On July 17, Women, Infants, Children Program (WIC) families will participate in the Project Fresh program. MSU Extension partners with Kalamazoo County Health & Community Services each year to provide nutrition education to families when they receive the Project Fresh coupons.
Once again Kalamazoo County MSU Extension will offer Senior Project Fresh on July 22 at the Kalamazoo Farmers' Market. Senior Project Fresh provides nutrition education, as well as coupons for free Michigan grown fresh fruits and vegetables to eligible seniors.

Kalamazoo County Fair in August
Everyone is invited to the 4-H activities during the 2008 Kalamazoo County Fair August 4-9. The 4-H members of Kalamazoo County have put countless hours into their projects to show during the fair. The Fair has plenty to offer each and every visitor; from the numerous animals to the carnival and every unique exhibit in between, the Kalamazoo County Fair allows visitors one special week a year to experience the many projects and learn from the county's youth.
While involved in 4-H, members set project or activity goals and personally assess the results at the end of their project. Members learn from one another, especially during the Kalamazoo County Fair and preparations for the fair. The older members teach younger members how to show a variety of animals and project skills, how to make a craft and how to develop their project record books. Throughout the year, youth choose the material to be covered at meetings and clinics. Constantly youth learn to make decisions as a group and to help one another.
Please join the 4-H members at the Kalamazoo County Fair and ask them what they learned. They will be happy to share those experiences with you. Learn more about animals, agriculture and youth activities in Kalamazoo.
