MSU Extension/Kalamazoo County
FAMILY NUTRITION PROGRAM
Program Description:
The Family Nutrition Program's mission is to provide food and nutrition education to food stamp
recipients within the state of Michigan. Michigan State University Extension facilitates the
program throughout every county in Michigan.
Funding for this program is provided by the United States
Department of Agriculture Food and Consumer Service
through Michigan’s Department of Human Services (DHS).
Kalamazoo County's Family Nutrition Program offers a unique approach in providing this nutrition education. We are
the only county with the expertise of a registered dietitian in an educator role. This allows our program to provide in-depth
nutrition education, as well as food safety an cooking instruction-via an assistant nutrition instructor.
The registered dietitian with this program collaborates with FNP grant partners to provide nutrition education. These grant partners include Michigan State University Kalamazoo
Center for Medical Studies, Caring Network, and Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes.
FNP can be contacted by e-mail at: byrdle@msu.edu
