Second Time Around is a program designed to provide kinship care providers information, support and access to community resources. Kinship care is defined by the Child Welfare League of America, 1994, “as the provision of full-time nurturing and protection of children by adults other than parents who have a family relationship with these children.”
Second Time Around programs discuss legal issues, parenting skills, health care options, communicating with schools, personal well-being, managing finances, and looking to the future. Participants have the opportunity to discuss issues affecting their lives in a nonjudgmental environment and to meet other families who are raising relative children.
