HAZARDOUS PRODUCT STORAGE
Hazardous products need to be stored in their original containers with their labels intact. They should be stored at least four feet off the ground to keep the products out of the reach of children. A lockable storage container such as a tool chest, cabinet, or shed will keep children and pets away from these products. Store the products in trays that will catch all leaks or spills. Keep the products in a well-ventilated area that is not exposed to extreme temperatures. Additionally, the hazardous products should be stored away from floor drains, and from all food and water sources.
HAZARDOUS WASTE
Many household products are hazardous and may be disposed of at the Household Hazardous Waste Center. These products include batteries, kitchen and bath cleaners, mercury, oil-based paint, pesticides, preservatives, solvents, some glues, thinners, varnish, and wood stripper.
Many automobile products are hazardous as well. Anti -freeze, batteries, gasoline, motor oil, and oil filters are accepted at the Household Hazardous Waste Center.
Latex paint is not accepted at the Household Hazardous Waste Center because it is not a hazardous product. If you need to dispose of latex paint, you can donate the paint to an organization or use kitty litter to dry out the paint and then throw it out with your garbage.
