PESTICIDES
Pesticides either kill or repel pests depending on the specific product. Read the label on the product to determine how it functions.
The following products are considered pesticides:
- Avicides - birds
- Fungicides - fungi (mold)
- Herbicides - weeds
- Insecticides - insects
- Miticides - mites
- Molluscides - mollusks
- Rodenticides - rodents
1. Purchase only the amount you need.
2. Read the label and follow the instructions.
3. Make sure the pest and item to be treated are listed on the label.
Try to use the least toxic product that will accomplish your goal. Look for these signal words when purchasing pesticides: Caution - Low toxicity, Warning - Moderate toxicity, and Danger - High toxicity
Use Integrated Pest Management (IPM): Select the best control method to manage pests with the least effect on other organisms. Identify the pest and determine where the pest /disease came from. . Find where the damage is located. Then determine what control choices exist (sanitation, barriers, natural chemicals, traps, crop rotation, and chemical control). Select the safest method.
