Kalamazoo County 4-H Leaders Banquet

Kalamazoo, Mich.- The 55th Annual Kalamazoo County 4-H Leaders Banquet was held on February 26, 2006 at Niko's Landing in Comstock. Fifty-seven leaders were honored, including one leader who received her Fifty Year Clover Award, Nellie Lou Vosburg of Climax.

First year leaders receiving certificates were: Travis Bartholomew, Denise Boswell, Gloria Cruz, JJ Davis, Cheryl Followell, Lisa Gelement, Gorie Gentz, Royal Gentz, Andrea Gray, Ann Haskell, Amanda Headley, John Hecht, Kim Henning, Connie Hunter, Nan Leyh, Virginia McDaniel, Susan Opalewski, Chris Ostlund, Dawn Patterson, Sheila Saunders, Rich Scovel, Effie Secondi, Marilee Sondgerath, Debbie Spencer, Jami Spencer, Dale Steinfeld, David VanLopik, Greg Vosburg, Lynne Wells, Wendy Wolthuis.

Five year leaders receiving certificates were: Lisa Allen, Rodney DeVries, Judy Hoffman, Kim Lawrence, Laura Tomion-Doorlag, Judy VandenBerg, Nancy Wheatley, Tami Wolthuis.

Ten year leaders receiving certificates were: Todd Burr, Lynn Coville, Ruth DeBoer, Terry Salinas, Mike Schug, Susan Stejskal, Becki VanderWeele, Barbara Wheelright.

Fifteen year leaders receiving certificates were: Terri Charlton, Roy Glenn, Paul Harrison, Connie Sturm, Kalvin VanderWeele.

Twenty year leaders receiving certificates were: William Wood.

Twenty-Five year leaders receiving certificates were: Curtis Bailey, Jill Carlson.

Thirty year leaders receiving certificates were: Audrey Taylor.

Fifty year leaders receiving certificates were: Nellie Lou Vosburg. As a child, Nellie Lou was a member of the Scotts 4-H Club for 9 years. She married Jan Vosburg and became a 4-H leader when her 6 children joined the Climax 4-H Club. She has led a wide variety of projects including: flower gardening, knitting, crocheting, sewing, photography, personal accounts, baby sitting and model business demo. Nellie Lou has served on countless committees, been Assistant Community Club Leader for the Climax 4-H Club 3 different times, was Secretary for Leaders Council and a Superintendent.

Special awards for Leader Merit were given to Terri Charlton (Galesburg 4-H Club), Lorene Taylor (Alamo Achievers 4-H Club) and Travis Bartholomew (Scotts 4-H Club). Friend of 4-H Awards were given to Jess Terry for Kraft Foods/Post Division, Tina Sherburn of Decatur and Matt Thornton for Thornton Auctioneering, Inc.
