Kinship Care Group to be Held Kalamazoo, Mich.- Kinship Care is defined by the Child Welfare
League of America, as the provision of full-time nurturing and protection of children by adults other than parents who have a family relationship bond with the children.
Consecutive Thursdays starting September 28-November 16 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The group gives adult kinship care providers and the teenagers they are raising a non-judgmental environment to discuss issues affecting their lives and an opportunity to learn about each other. The teens and adults meet with their peers and also together to hear each other’s concerns and challenges in their own words. Conflict resolution, bullying and self-esteem, preparing for a job interview, meal planning, handling a budget, role playing, discussions of “hot topics”, and occasional family nights will enhance the teen/adult relationships in these unique kinship family groups. Second Time Around is funded by Strong Families/Safe Children and Area Agency on Aging IIIA. ### MSU Extension is an Affirmative-Action Equal-Opportunity Institution. Michigan State University Extension programs and materials are open to all without regard to race, color, national origin, gender, religion, age, disability, political beliefs, sexual orientation, marital status, or family status. |
