Kalamazoo County Youth Awarded MSU Pre-College Scholarships
East Lansing, MI- Alisha Myers, Scotts; Kristopher Pendziszewski, Mattawan; Alex VanDyk, Kalamazoo have been awarded a $2000 Pre-college Achievement Scholarship. Eighth graders for 2005-2006 who attended a 2005 summer pre-college program at MSU were eligible to apply for this award. Alisha, Kristopher and Alex were eligible from their participation in 4-H Explorations Days. They have been 4-H members for six years.
Alisha is the daughter of Dawn and Richard Myers. She attends Climax-Scotts Schools and is a member of the Scotts Busy Youth 4-H Club. Kristopher is the son of Steve and Nancy Pendziszewski. He attends Mattawan Schools and is a member of the County Center Clover Club. Alex is the son of Robert and Cathi VanDyk. He is home schooled and is a member of the Alamo Achievers 4-H Club.
Selection for this scholarship is based on academic ability and potential, demonstration of extra curricular and community service experience, demonstration of leadership and teamwork skills, ability to overcome obstacles, teacher and program director nominations and strength of student essay. The scholarship will be applied toward the student's first year at MSU as a degree-seeking student. Pre-college scholarship recipients are not guaranteed admission to MSU and are expected to meet admission requirements upon MSU application.
Michigan 4-H Youth Programs are part of Michigan State University Extension Children, Youth and Family Programs. Michigan 4-H annually involves more than 230,000 Michigan young people in fun, experiential learning opportunities led by more than 32,000 adult and older youth volunteers.
