Master Gardener Class Beginning Soon

Kalamazoo, Mich.- Interested in becoming a Master Gardener? Want to learn more about what plants grow in our area? Registration is underway for the winter session of the Michigan State University Extension Master Gardener class in Kalamazoo County. Class will meet at the Kalamazoo County office building located at 3299 Gull Road on Tuesdays from 5:30 until 9:30 p.m., beginning February 6 and continuing through May 1, 2007.

This in-depth horticultural program will cover the following topics: Plant Science, Soil Science, Plant Health Care, Small Fruit & Tree Fruit, Pests & Wildlife Management, Turfgrass, Woody Ornamentals, Composting, Flowers, Vegetables and Indoor Plants.

There is a fee of $250 to participate in this class; this fee covers all necessary materials. MSU Extension offers several scholarships to program participants; these are awarded based on a submitted application. Scholarship applications are included in the registration information packet.

Class size is limited and registrations are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. To receive a registration packet, call the MSU Extension office at (269) 383-8815 or 384-8197.

The class is the first step in the Master Gardener Volunteer Program. Following completion of the class, volunteer community service is the next step to maintain active Master Gardener Volunteer certification.

Master Gardener Volunteers partner with many community organizations by sharing their horticultural knowledge and assisting in the beautification of outdoor spaces in Kalamazoo County.
