Learn about Trees at Kellogg Biological Station

Kalamazoo, Mich.- Want to learn more about trees in your landscape? Is it time to prune? Is it too late? How do I do it? These and other questions will be answered at Tree-mendous Trees, a one-day seminar on Saturday, March 10, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The location is Kellogg Biological Station in Hickory Corners. There is a fee of $50, which includes workshop sessions, refreshments and lunch.

This seminar is open to the public, and will be of interest to those who want to know how to select and care for trees, including home-grown fruit, on their property. The day begins at 8:30 a.m. with check-in, followed by a keynote presentation on “Champion Trees of Michigan,” workshop sessions presented by area experts, and a tour of the grounds of the W. K. Kellogg summer home estate.

This in-depth program will cover the following topics: Great trees and shrubs for the Midwest landscape; proper pruning techniques, including hands-on demonstrations; and how to diagnose and treat tree and shrub problems. For those interested in home grown fruit, experts will discuss how to select varieties for the home landscape, and care such as pruning, grafting and pest control.

Tree-mendous Trees is sponsored by the Michigan State University Extension Master Gardener Program in Kalamazoo County. Registrations and workshop selections are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Advance registration is required, the deadline is March 6.
