Interested in Growing your own Food? - Vegetable Gardening 101
Kalamazoo, Mich.- Are you interested in growing your own vegetables? MSU Extension is offering a series of vegetable gardening classes beginning March 24, 2008. Classes meet each Monday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 pm through April 28. Cost for the series of classes is $25 per person. Sign up today!
Vegetable Gardening 101 is designed for those who would like to begin growing their own vegetables or for those gardeners who would like to improve their gardening skills. People with 3 or less years of experience will benefit most from this course. Class topics include: what is required to grow a satisfactory vegetable garden, the best plants to grow and how to grow them, how to start plants from seed, how to build raised gardens, start container gardening, control pests and weeds, how to compost and many tricks and tips for successful gardening.
Students will have the opportunity for hands on experience in a community vegetable garden working alongside Master Gardeners, and will also be able to reserve space for growing their own vegetable garden.
Classes are being taught by Advanced Master Gardeners with extensive vegetable gardening experience. A curriculum and handouts will be provided for each student enrolled in this series of classes.
