Kinship Care Program Information Series Set For September 9, 2009

Kalamazoo, Mich.- Registration is starting for a series of workshops for relatives raising relative children. They are sponsored by Michigan State University Extension Kalamazoo County’s Kinship Care Program, also known as Second Time Around.

Wednesdays, September 9-October 7
5:30-8:30 p.m.
Prince of Peace Lutheran Church
1747 W. Milham Road, Portage

Cost: FREE. Childcare, materials, and an evening meal included.

The workshop sessions will review parenting skills, the availability of community resources, examine the legal issues associated with raising relative children, look at how schools have changed and see what programs are available to benefit the children they are raising, learn tips on dealing with the complicated relationships that have evolved in their families, and much more.

In addition, attending the program will give families a chance to meet others who are raising relative children and who may be struggling with similar issues. Attendees will receive support, friendships, and information specific for kinship families.
