October 22, 2003 Meeting Notes

I. Introductions

The meeting came to order at 7:07 p.m. See Appendix A for the list of attendees.

II. Meeting Orientation

Mr. Sych briefly highlighted what we would cover during the meeting.

III. Forwarding of July 23rd Resolution to MDOT

Mr. Sych indicated that the resolution will be forwarded to MDOT very soon.

IV. Next Steps

A. Implementation of Access Management

Mr. Harden updated the committee on the progress being made toward implementation of the access management plan.

B. Village of Schoolcraft Land Use Plan

C. Schoolcraft Township Land Use Plan

Mr. Harden and Mr. Ulsh updated the group on plans to update the Schoolcraft Township and Village of Schoolcraft land use plans next year. We discussed the possibility of joint land-use planning, and the benefits that would give to the communities.

D. Economic Development for the US-131 Corridor

Mr. Sych commented regarding the Village of Schoolcraft's plans to implement a Downtown Development Authority.

Prior to adjournment, we discussed the future of the group. Two items were highlighted as tasks for the committee. First, it was suggested that we should begin work to reach consensus on the location of a future bypass, so as to demonstrate to MDOT our continued commitment to progress and consensus-building. Second, it was suggested that we work to get MDOT to send a planner to one of our meetings to speak to what we can do to improve our ranking on their list of priorities. Third, we agreed to discuss in January what will be our meeting schedule, whether it be monthly, quarterly, or some other arrangement.

There being no further business, the meeting concluded at 7:28 p.m. The next meeting will be held on 28 January 2003 at 7:00 p.m. at Schoolcraft Village Hall.
