General Summary
Employees in this job classification are civilian employees that work within the control center area located in the center of the jail.

Essential Job Functions

• Monitors cameras and visually observes doors, halls and gates on all floors of the jail facility.
• Responsible for monitoring inmate and deputy movement within the jail and ensure security of the jail.
• Serves as a dispatcher for the jail radio traffic.
• Monitors emergency alarms.
• Responsible for after hour calls at the front lobby.
• Administrative tasks as assigned.
• Must operate phones.
• Operate computerized equipment.

Skills

• Moderate to advanced computer skills.
• Knowledge of security procedures.
• Knowledge of departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
• Ability to maintain composure during stressful situations.
• Ability to react quickly, clearly, and calmly in emergencies.
• Ability to multi-task and attention to detail.
• Must have excellent written and oral skills in order to direct inmates and staff where appropriate.

Working Conditions

• Assignments may be any day of the week and any shift.
• Assignments may be performed in an environment that may be uncomfortable and possibly dangerous.
• Assignments involve frequent contact with inmates.

Minimum Qualifications

• A minimum of 21 years of age.
• Possess a valid Michigan driver's license
• Ability to pass a medical exam and drug screen.
• Willingness to submit to a thorough background investigation designed to assess the applicant's suitability for employment as a Control Center Operator.
