05/01/2012 - Suspect Apprehended Following Pursuit
On 5-1-12 at 12:45 PM, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety attempted to stop a vehicle in the city of Kalamazoo for a traffic violation. The suspect vehicle fled from the officer and continued to flee from numerous other officers and agencies in and around the Western Michigan University campus area at a high rate of speed.
The suspect vehicle eventually continued South on Oakland Dr through the city of Portage where Portage Department of Public Safety picked up the pursuit.
The suspect continued to flee from Portage Police and was then pursued by the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, Schoolcraft PD and Vicksburg PD.
The suspect was pursued through out the southern portion of Kalamazoo County until the suspect crashed at the intersection of 29 St. and W Ave. The 33 year old driver was then taken into custody without incident and suffered no injuries in the crash.
The pursuit continued for aprox 20 miles and six agencies assisted in the pursuit.
The driver was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail on charges of Fleeing & Eluding Police and several outstanding warrants for his arrest.
