On Sept. 12, 2012 at 12:30 PM the Climax Banking Center was robbed. A lone white male suspect entered the bank and demanded money. The suspect fled the bank southbound on Main St to the park where he then ran west to Lovell St.
He was followed by a witness who then saw him cross the railroad tracks and enter into a cornfield.
The area was cordoned off. K-9's from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety and the Kalamazoo Sheriff's Office were called in to help with the search. A Michigan State Police helicopter was also used in the search. Assisting in the bank robbery investigation were the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, Michigan State Police, DNR, Augusta Police Department and Kalamazoo office of the FBI.
The Climax Schools were on a lock down during the search for the suspect, who remains at large.
The suspect is described as a white male 6' tall, salt pepper mustache, light colored hoodie, dark ski mask and blue jeans. That subject is further described having shoulder length salt and pepper hair balding on top with a salt and pepper mustache. A suspicious looking subject fitting the description was seen the day before and the morning of the Bank Robbery walking up and down Main St.
