Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Mounted Division Awards

Kalamazoo Sheriff’s Department is awarded both the National Mounted Police Colloquium and North American Police Equestrian Council’s Highest Honors.
The Kalamazoo Michigan Sheriff’s Mounted Division members attended the North American Police Equestrian Council’s week of training in Kingston Ontario September 12-18th, 2016. Division Members also participated in the 32nd annual Nation Mounted Police Colloquium at the Kentucky Horse Park September 26-30, 2016.
The Police Equestrian Council and National Mounted Police Colloquium provide opportunities for law enforcement officers across North American to bring horse and rider together for training and test their equine confidence and skills. Upon conclusion of the weeks of training, horse and officer teams are tested on an obstacle course. Navigating the previously unseen obstacles demonstrates the training and bravery of the horse, their bond, trust and communication between mount and rider.
The mounted partners are ranked by performance against all of the other mounted teams.
The first place winner at both major events (Police Equestrian Council and National Police Colloquium) are members of the Kalamazoo Michigan Sheriff’s Mounted Division.
Deputy Grant Solomon and his partner Walker received the first place honor at the North American Police Equestrian Council training and competition September 18th, 2016 at Kingston Ontario.
Deputy Pam Weston and her partner Pickle received the first place honor at the National Police Colloquium, Lexington Kentucky September 30, 2016.

Sheriff Richard Fuller is pictured congratulating his mounted teams upon their return to Kalamazoo.
The Kalamazoo Sheriff’s Mounted Division provides police horse patrols throughout the county of Kalamazoo. They also provide assistance to other law enforcement agencies such as the United States Secret Service.
Sheriff Richard Fuller may be contacted at 269.385.6173 for additional comment.
