The main function of the Treasurer is to maintain the County treasury, which requires that the Treasurer's Office record and track all funds and accounts, invest County funds, and report to the Board of Commissioners on the condition of the County's finances.

The Treasurer is mandated by state laws to administer the process used by governmental units in the county to collect and disburse property taxes. In addition, the Treasurer administers the collection of all delinquent property taxes, acts as agent for the County in Tax Note borrowing, administers the hotel/motel accommodation tax ordinance, provides tax certification on all transfers of real property, settles MTT appeals, distributes penal fines, adjusts tax dollars per local boards of review, adjusts denials or granting of homestead status, and collects all State Education Taxes.
