Kalamazoo County Animal Services and Enforcement
Save Our Strays
Save Our Strays (SOS) is an all volunteer group that assists in advertising the animals available for adoption at Kalamazoo County Animal Services and Enforcement (KCASE)
The SOS volunteer's work primarily consists of visiting KCASE once a week to photograph the adoptable animals housed there. Those dynamic photos, of some very needy cats and dogs, are uploaded to the international adoption website PetFinder ™ in hopes of increasing chances for adoption for these animals that are at risk of euthanasia simply due to a lack of space at the shelter.
The SOS photography sessions take a couple of hours every Wednesday night. The photography groups alternate weeks and are comprised of at least three dog volunteers and two cat volunteers. Camera skills are a major benefit, but not necessary, and some basic computer skill are required. Also, volunteers must be comfortable in handling unfamiliar animals.
Even though photography is the primary volunteer role, SOS also prides itself on assisting KCASE whenever there is a need. SOS is vital in organizing and assisting in the transportation and handling of KCASE animals to adoption events throughout Kalamazoo County.
We are a very small group and are always in need of additional help. You must be over 18 years of age to volunteer. Please email sbrodasky@hotmail.com if you would like more information on volunteering with SOS. Thank you.
