Surrender Your Pet
As your pet ages or your life situation changes, it may become necessary to find your pet(s) a new home, or to euthanize your pet. Animal Services does not judge or restrict which pets we euthanize, and the decision is solely that of the owner of the pet. For animals which need to be euthanized due to health or aggression issues, KCASE offers a low-cost, humane service. For owners who need to rehome a pet due to financial, housing, family or other life changing situations, we can attempt to rehome your pet.
Animal Services provides two options for surrendering your pet to us:
Euthanasia: Animal Services will need the driver's license and permission from the owner to take their animal in and put it to sleep. This option is best for aggressive, sick or injured animals that should not go to another family. You are welcome to make arrangements for taking your pet home with you afterward for burial or cremation if that is your wish, however the fee is the same. Please be aware that Animal Services does not allow owners to be present for the euthanasia procedure.
Euthanasia or Adoption: If your pet is healthy, friendly and preferably up to date on its vaccinations and neutering we will take your animal in for rehoming. This depends on how much space is available in the shelter, and your animal needs to pass a basic evaluation from our staff. There is no promise that we will hold the animal until it gets adopted.
We do charge $5.00 for small animals, $20.00 for cats and $30.00 for dogs.
*Out of County residents will pay $10.00 for small animals, $40.00 for cats and $60.00 for dogs.
Fees must be paid in full at time of service, in person. Phone and internet transactions are not available at this time.
Fees may be paid via Credit/Debit Cards, Checks (no starter checks, must be numbered 1000 or over), Money Orders, Cashier's Checks, or Cash.
