The Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners regularly seeks area residents interested in serving on boards and commissions. Currently, applicants are being sought for the following boards and commissions:

Board of Public Works

The Board of Public Works deals with public infrastructure review and development.  Appointments are made for three-year terms of office.  Meeting dates, time, and location are posted on the County’s Public Meeting Notice page.

Community Corrections Advisory Board

The Community Corrections Advisory Board (CCAB) reviews topics related to new or changing issues in correc­tions.  The primary mission of the CCAB is to develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate programs that provide alternatives to incarceration for non-violent offenders in order to reduce jail and prison overcrowd­ing. These appointments are representative of prosecution, courts, law enforcement, media, human services, defense attorneys, and the business communi­ty. Appointments are made for two-year terms of office. Meeting dates, time, and location are posted on the County’s Public Meeting Notice page.

Materials Management Planning Committee

The Materials Management Planning Committee (MMPC) exists to direct Kalamazoo County in the preparation of the Materials Management Plan (MMP) and ensure the county is fulfilling the statutory requirements of Part 115 of the Michigan Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act . The MMPC will help identify local policies and priorities, advise counties and municipalities regarding the MMP, , notify parties of deficiencies in the MMP or the process, and provide the final level of MMP approval before it is presented to the Board of Commissioners.  Initial members are appointed for a 5-year term.  This board consists of eleven community members from different sectors as outlined on page 16 of the Material Management Planning Quick Guide: Material Management Planning Quick Guide (michigan.gov).  Eligible for $30.00 per meeting per diem payment for meeting attendance.  Meeting dates, time, and location are posted on the County’s Public Meeting Notice page: https://www.kalcounty.com/public_notice.php

Road Commission of Kalamazoo County - (Official Site)

The Board of County Road Commissioners a separate legal entity, is charged with the responsibility for construction and maintenance of the Kalamazoo County infrastructure system.  At least four of the five Board members must reside in a township and are 6 year staggered terms.
