Certified copies of vital records are available through the County Clerk's Office. All copies issued by this office are certified copies with a raised seal.

The issuance of certified copies is governed by Michigan statutes. These statutes are available for inspection in the County Clerk's Office.

Fees

$15.00 - first copy of the record
$5.00 - additional copies of the same record ordered at the same time

The senior citizen fee (65 years and older) for a senior requesting a copy of their own birth certificate is $5.00.

Requests may be made in person or by mail, including the required fees (in the form of a check or money order made payable to Kalamazoo County Clerk). Mail requests take approximately 2 weeks. Please also include a self-addressed, stamped business envelope.

For expedited service, an overnight delivery company (i.e. Federal Express) may be used. Please include a pre-paid return overnight envelope with your request. These requests are given priority and are returned to the carrier as soon as possible after receipt.

If the request is made in person, a driver's license or photo ID is required to be seen, and can usually be filled within a few minutes.

The Kalamazoo County Clerk can accept the following methods of payment for documents requested in person: cash, check, money order, debit card or credit card (Visa, Master Card or Discover only).

Mail requests must be accompanied with a check or money order. Please do not send cash.

Birth Certificates

Birth records for births occurring in Kalamazoo county are available from the County Clerk's Office beginning with 1867. Birth Certificates are confidential records and available only to the person or parents of the person named on that record. Additional documentation will be required of applicants stating they are an heir, legal guardian or legal representative of the person named on the record. This office requires a current valid driver's license or state issued ID as identification for birth certificate requests.

If the request is made by mail, a letter must be written which includes the following or use the link below to download a request form:

  • Full name of person - (maiden name if female)
  • Birth date of person
  • Parents = full birth names, mother's maiden name and middle names of both
  • Photocopy of the driver's license of the requesting party
  • Self-addressed, stamped business size envelope
  • Signature of person requesting the record
  • Appropriate fee (check or money order) made payable to Kalamazoo County Clerk

Mail requests take approximately 2 weeks.

If the request lacks any of the required information, it will be returned to you for completion.

Death Certificates

Death records occurring in Kalamazoo County are available from the County Clerk's Office beginning with 1867.

Marriage Certificates

Marriage records are available beginning with 1831, for licenses applied for, and subsequently filed with the Kalamazoo County Clerk.

To request a copy of a marriage certificate in person, simply provide the following or use the link below to download a request form:

  • Names of individuals on marriage license (including woman's birth name)
  • Approximate date of marriage (within 5 years)
  • Appropriate fee (check or money order)
