Register of Deeds
Welcome to the Kalamazoo County Register of Deeds website. The Register of Deeds is the keeper of the Public Record for land documents. The recording of your document, by this office, does not make your document legal. It makes your document public. The office of the Register of Deeds’ duty is to record, index into a searchable database, and to preserve these records and their integrity while protecting individual property rights, and to do so in a timely manner.
The Register of Deeds is a constitutional office established by the Michigan State Legislature as the custodian of legal documents pertaining to real property. These documents include Warranty Deeds, Quit Claim Deeds, Land Contracts, Releases, Powers of Attorney, Liens, Plats, Amendments and other miscellaneous documents designated by state law to be recorded by the Register of Deeds. After a document is recorded it is available to the public and can be reviewed and/or copied by anyone.
Please be aware that pursuant to MCL 600.916(1), clerks are barred by law from giving legal advice or preparing legal documents.
