Vital Records Scholarship

Thanks to a generous grant from the Kalamazoo Community Foundation, The Office of the Kalamazoo County Clerk/Register of Deeds is pleased to offer a Vital Records Scholarship Pilot Program. The Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners approved this scholarship fund to allow county residents experiencing financial hardship to receive vital records free of charge.

This scholarship was established to alleviate financial barriers for individuals and families in accessing essential vital records by providing grant-funded scholarship dollars to cover expenses associated with acquiring vital records, such as certified copies of birth, death, and marriage records.

To demonstrate eligibility, applicants will be required to submit a letter signed by a recognized local social service agency vouching for their financial need. We have modeled this format after a similar successful Vital Records Scholarship that has been in operation in the Oakland County Clerk’s office since 2014 in partnership with their area social service agencies.

A list of known participating social service agencies is provided for reference:

Copies are limited by document type:

  • Birth Certificate – 2
  • Marriage License – 2
  • Death Certificate – 5
