8th District Court - Civil Division
Civil Actions
The District Court has jurisdiction in civil actions claiming $25,000 or less. Civil actions are typically handled by attorneys who prepare the content of the complaint, answer the complaint, file motions, answer motions, and support their clients' position using applicable statutes and case law. Although legal representation is not a requirement in a civil action, most clients choose to be represented. Court Staff will provide general procedural assistance to parties who represent themselves; i.e. regarding State approved forms and time parameters within which an answer must be filed. However, Court Clerks are not attorneys and cannot give legal advice.
