Office of Emergency Management
Dave Schneider joined the Office of Emergency Management in June, 2004 and served as Interim Director from January 25 through October 18, 2013. He has helped manage a Presidential disaster declaration and several other major disasters including the recent Kalamazoo River Oil Spill where he served as an Incident Commander for Kalamazoo County on the eight person Unified Command Group. Prior to his employment with Emergency Management, Dave worked as a professional broadcaster for 10 years, served 2 years as a Personnel Specialist in the Office of the Chief of Staff of the Army in the Pentagon and did part-time stints as a janitor and a bartender, all before embarking on a career with the State of Michigan in 1976. Dave was employed by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services for 26 years, serving as the Administrative Manager for the Kalamazoo County office for 16 years. He retired from the State of Michigan in November, 2002. Dave served as the Department's representative on the Kalamazoo County Disaster Committee from 1986 through 2002. Dave has one son and one daughter and lives with his wife on 10 acres near Lawton. He is active in the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) and includes computers and nature photography as hobbies.
