Elder Abuse Prevention

Vulnerable adults are considered individuals who are unable to protect themselves from harm including abuse, neglect or exploitation.

Abuse: harm or threat of harm to an adult’s health (physical, mental, emotional, or sexual)

Neglect: inability of a caregiver or individual to provide basic needs of food, water, safe shelter, clothing, and medical care for a vulnerable adult

Exploitation: misuse of an individual’s finances, physical property, or personal dignity to achieve gain by another individual

 AAA is committed to keeping older adults in our community safe, providing regional education and prevention, and advocating for state and federal prevention initiatives.

Community Collaborations

The AAA IIIA Investigative Teams Coordinator works together with community partners to address life threatening concerns for the older adults of Kalamazoo County through participation on the:

  • Elder Death Review Team
  • Elder Abuse Multidisciplinary Team
  • Hoarding Multidisciplinary Team
  • Suicide Death Review
  • Financial Fraud Investigators Team

Awareness: Community Education & Trainings

  • Facilitating in-service trainings for mandated reporters
  • Providing outreach opportunities at community events
  • Presenting
