Older Adult Services Division

The Area Agency on Aging is funded through federal, state, and local funds allocated specifically to older adults in Kalamazoo County. Find out more about Area Agencies on Aging in Michigan.

Kalamazoo County Residents who are 60 years of age or older, who are facing difficulties staying at home safely or independently can qualify for the program.

Case management (The Choices for Independence Program through AAAIIIA), is where a clinician (a nurse or social worker) is assigned to help clients find resources to address complicated barriers of aging at home. They advocate for client needs and safety in the home, and through hospitalizations and rehabilitation.  They partner with the client to empower them to utilize resources to stay in their home safely. Learn more about our Choices for Independence Program.

Programming offers potential opportunities for assistance with Homemaking, Respite Care, Adult Day Care, Personal Care, Personal Emergency Response Buttons, Transportation Assistance, and Medication Management. An assessment is completed with each new client regarding need and financial vulnerability after evaluating the possibilities of cost-sharing.

Depending on need, desired service, available staffing, and funding, individuals may be placed on a waiting list prior to accessing services. There is no cost to enroll and work with a licensed Social Worker or Registered Nurse for community-based case management. To access funded services, a financial cost share assessment is completed at time of program enrollment.

To become a contracted Provider of Service, the business or agency must meet standards set by the Aging and Adult Services Agency of Michigan and the Kalamazoo County Area Agency on Aging.  Learn more about contracting for services.

The AAAIIIA provides valuable programs that help elders stay at home, find services and resources, and contribute to better managing health concerns. We are often asked by people who take classes or receive services how they can make a donation, as well as honor loved ones who have passed.
