Kalamazoo County Senior Millage

 

The Kalamazoo County Senior Millage is a local fund that provides education, safety, dignity, independence, home services, and healthy living programs for Kalamazoo County residents aged 60 and above. The fund is administered by the Kalamazoo County Health & Community Services Department Area Agency on Aging, Region 3A, and aims to improve the quality of living for older adults.

The Kalamazoo County Senior Millage was approved by voters for the December 1, 2018, levy through the 2023 levy. The Senior Millage is scheduled for renewal in 2024.

The Senior Millage funds & supports services that are available and utilized by all 24 municipalities of Kalamazoo County.

The Senior Millage assisted over 8,400 Kalamazoo County older adults and their caregivers in 2022.

The Senior Millage offers 23 unique services that help older adults age in their homes – with more services in development! *

The Senior Millage contracts with 27 service providers that are dedicated to serving the aging community. 

The Senior Millage annual operating budget is ~2.9 million to support seniors and prevent long-term care (nursing home) placements.

Older adults are the fastest growing age group in Kalamazoo County, increasing by nearly 34% from 2010 – 2021.

Data & Financial Reports

Data regarding the Senior Millage is disseminated through public meetings, specifically during the Kalamazoo County Older Adult Services Advisory Committee (OASAC) meetings which take place on the 2nd Wednesday of every month. The reports provided during these meetings cover a range of information including updates on awarded providers, budget details, programmatic data, and spending data in the form of Spending Balance Reports.
