Public Health Undergraduate Internship and Practicum Application

Thank you for your interests in completing an undergraduate internship or master’s degree practicum with the Health & Community Services Department. Please review the information below carefully before applying for an undergraduate internship or submitting your master’s degree practicum interest form.

Undergraduate Internship Process:

Undergraduate internships available at Kalamazoo County Health & Community Services Department are listed below. When applying for an undergraduate internship, you will need to fill out an online application and submit a resume and cover letter. Please do not apply without specifically specifying which undergraduate internship(s) you are interested in.

All undergraduate internships posted on this page are UNPAID. Paid internships are posted on Kalamazoo County's Employment Opportunities page, and interested applicants should follow the hiring instructions there. The posting of paid internships does not necessarily follow the release schedule referenced below. It is the responsibility of the applicant to monitor and apply for a paid internship through Kalamazoo County.

  • Winter/Spring 2025 internship position descriptions are posted on October 7, 2024.
  • Submit a complete application (includes resume and cover letter) during the time-period of October 7 through October 18.
  • Interviews will occur October 28 through November 8.
  • Students will be notified of placement or non-placement no later than November 22.

Current Undergraduate Internship Opportunities

  • There are no unpaid internship positions available for the Fall 2024 semester.

Qualifications

Applicants must be 18 years or older and possess a high school diploma prior to the start date of the internship. Internships are not paid positions and follow the academic calendars of post-secondary institutions. Applicants are registered as a student receiving internship credit through a college or university. Hours per week are dependent upon course requirements and/or position description. All other qualifications are listed in the position descriptions.

Future Semester Application Timeline:

The Health & Community Services Department will post position descriptions and release timelines for all available unpaid internships per semester. Please reference the schedule below and be sure to check the website during the months listed.

  • In February 2025 – HCS Summer 2025 internship positions are posted.
  • In July 2025 – HCS Fall 2025 internship positions are posted.
  • In October 2025 – HCS Winter/Spring 2026 internship positions are posted.

Master’s Degree Practicum:

The Health & Community Services Department receives applications year round for master’s degree practicums. If interested in completing your master’s degree practicum at the Health & Community Services Department, please fill out the Master’s Degree Practicum Interest Form. Master’s degree practicums are dependent on staff availability and capacity.
