Pubic Lice
Symptoms:
- Pruritus
- Visible lice or nits in pubic hair
Definitive Diagnosis:
Visualization of louse in pubic hair (or other body hair)
N/A - no tests for pubic lice
First Line Treatment
Recommended:
Permethrin 1% creme rinse: Apply to affected areas and wash off after 10 minutes.
or
Pyrethrins with piperonyl butoxide applied to the affected area and washed off after 10 minutes.
Alternative Treatment
Alternative:
Malathion 0.5% lotion applied for 8-12 hours and washed off
or
Ivermectin 250 µg/kg orally, repeated in 2 weeks
