Provide active and passive disease surveillance and education of reportable communicable disease affecting Kalamazoo County residents to ensure appropriate treatment and investigation and to prevent further transmission.

Develop and implement effective focused planning for increasing communicable disease (CD) reporting and decreasing transmission in Kalamazoo County residents.   Serve as liaison between HCS/MDHHS and community health care/medical providers, clinics, hospitals and the public by way of accessibility and effective communication.  Maintain CD information and other educational/instructional materials for health care and other professionals in the community.   Provide24/7 response to any Emergency/Bioterrorism events.

Maintain comprehensive knowledge of current and emerging health issues affecting individuals and the community.  Effective communication is to be maintained with MDHHS through preparation of reports, proposals and other documentation required by MDHHS.   Assist with community outbreak investigations to reduce or eliminate further disease transmission.

Current Michigan R.N. License required with a Bachelor's degree in nursing/health preferred or any comparable combination training, experience, or education.  Two years minimum of acute care and/or public health experience.  Must demonstrate the ability to multi-task, function independently, problem solve and make clinically accurate decisions under high stress conditions.  Demonstrate excellent assessment, interviewing and communication skills.  Must possess pathophysiology/knowledge of human development, health & disease processes as well as infection control principles.  Must obtain TB management certification through MDCH in first year and maintain requirements for continued licensure and certifications.  Proficient in use of computers, valid driver's license and reliable transportation.  Bi-lingual in English and Spanish highly desired.
