Under the general supervision of the Environmental Health Manager and/or direction of the Environmental Health Supervisor, employee will inspect commercial, residential and public locations in the County to enforce Federal, State and local laws that safeguard the public’s health. An employee in this classification works in the Land water and Wastewater program.
Enforce State regulations and assure all Accreditation and Minimum Program Requirements (MPR's) associated with licensed food establishments are met and investigates and provides response to consumer complaints including during food borne illness outbreaks. Enforce State regulations associated with public campgrounds by providing annual inspection and complaint response. Enforce State and local regulations associated with public swimming pools and spas by providing inspection, complaint response and review and respond to weekly water sample results.
Provide health and safety contract audits for Adult and childcare facilities. Educate the public regarding home environment issues; provide advice and resolve issues associated with housing sanitation and safety. Enforce State regulations by providing contract audits and complaint response for body art facilities. Enforce State and local regulations and assure all MPR’s associated with onsite wastewater and sewage treatment systems are met by providing site assessments, inspections and complaint investigations.
Enforce State regulations and assure all MPR's associated with onsite residential and Type III water supplies are met by providing oversight of Registered water well drilling contractors, site assessments, inspections complaint response and owner water quality education. Enforce Kalamazoo County Sanitary Code Housing Regulations by complaint response, providing site inspections, issue correction orders and resolve public health issues associated with housing sanitation and safety. Coordinate activities associated with beach monitoring and beach water sampling and issue beach health advisories as needed.
Enforce local regulations and perform surveillance of condemned properties associated with Methamphetamine contamination. Food Program Standardized Trainer provides and seeks out training opportunities for the food program staff; works with the EH supervisor or Manager on internal program quality assurance related to state program requirements. Enforce Federal Regulations and assure all contract requirements are met for Type II Non-community Water Supply Systems, perform sanitary surveys, coordinate compliance and advise operators to assure Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act requirements are fulfilled. Review plans, issue permits and/or approvals for commercial sewage treatment systems, subdivision, site condominium and land divisions in accordance with State Law.
Bachelors’ Degree in Environmental Health, Biology or related field required; Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS)/Registered Sanitarian (RS) required. Knowledge of existing laws and ordinances related to environmental health, good communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a team environment required. Reliable transportation
Senior Environmental Health Specialist preferred, not required.
